This original painting by Paul Dove features the iconic Napier-Railton, an aero-engined racing car built in 1933. Designed by Reid Railton and commissioned by John Cobb, the car was constructed by Thomson & Taylor at Brooklands. On October 7, 1935, Cobb piloted the Napier-Railton to set the all-time lap record at Brooklands, achieving an average speed of 143.44 mph This record remains unbroken, as the circuit closed during World War II and never reopened for racing.
Beyond this remarkable feat, the Napier-Railton distinguished itself by breaking 47 world speed records between 1933 and 1937 at venues including Brooklands, Montlhéry, and the Bonneville Salt Flats
