Driving the Williams-Honda, Nigel Mansell begins an epic charge – breaking the lap record eight times at the 1987 British GP. With laser-focus he hunts down Brazilian team-mate Nelson Piquet after acquiring fresh rubber and re-entering the race 29 seconds behind him, with 28 laps to go.
Despite his fuel display reading “minus 2.5 laps”, Mansell would take the lead with 3 laps to go after a heart-pounding chase and clinch the victory becoming one of his most memorable Formula One performances. It was Mansell’s third win of the season, and his second consecutive British Grand Prix victory.
